Curtis James Jackson III (born July 6, 1975), known professionally as 50 Cent, is an American rapper, actor, television producer, and businessman. Born in South Jamaica, Queens, New York City, Jackson began pursuing a musical career in 1996. He signed with Columbia Records in 2002, but the label dropped him after he was shot nine times in 2000.
In 2003, Jackson founded his own record label, G-Unit Records, and released his debut mixtape, Comment Up Now. The mixtape’s success led to a recording contract with Interscope Records, and in 2005, Jackson released his debut studio album, Get Rich or Die Tryin’. The album was a commercial success, selling over 8 million copies in the United States and spawning the hit singles “In da Club”, “Candy Shop”, and “21 Questions”.
